Job summary

ICF is seeking an Energy Markets Consultant / Senior Consultant to join our Power Markets practice. In this role, you will work with leading energy industry participants to evaluate investment opportunities, forecast market outcomes, assess risks, and develop strategies in an increasingly complex energy environment.

You will contribute to projects involving power market forecasting, asset valuation, transmission and interconnection analysis, renewable energy development, battery energy storage

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Operations Research, Mathematics, Energy Systems, Statistics, or a related quantitative field
• Bachelor’s degree AND 2 to 4+ years of experience in energy markets, power systems, energy economics, market analysis, consulting, trading, utility planning, or a related field
• Master’s degree AND 1 to 3+ years of experience in energy markets, power systems, energy economics, market analysis, consulting, trading, utility planning, or a related field
• Analytical and problem-solving skill experience
• Experience using Excel and quantitative analysis tools
• Experience with Python, R, SQL, or similar programming languages

Responsibilities

• Perform quantitative, economic, and technical analyses of U.S. power markets using market models, proprietary tools, and large datasets
• Develop long-term forecasts of energy, capacity, ancillary services, and renewable energy market outcomes
• Evaluate renewable energy, battery storage, conventional generation, transmission, and energy investments
• Analyze market fundamentals including load growth, fuel prices, transmission congestion, generation retirements, policy changes, and new resource additions
• Support interconnection and transmission analyses, including queue activity, network upgrade costs, congestion impacts, and project economics
• Assist with asset valuations, project financing analyses, acquisition due diligence, and M&A support engagements
• Collaborate to enhance forecasting methodologies, databases, and analytical tools
• Prepare client presentations, technical reports, and market insights for diverse audiences
• Support business development through market research, proposals, conferences, and thought leadership
