Job summary

Wabtec is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join the Product Engineering team in the United States. You will define and develop embedded software for market-leading electro-mechanical products and collaborate with Automation, Manufacturing Operations, and Manufacturing Engineering to improve processes and product quality.

The role emphasizes C/C++ on microcontrollers, bare-metal firmware, real-time performance, and security considerations.

Qualifications

BS in Electrical Engineering or BS in Software Engineering (MS preferred).
5+ years of experience designing/developing embedded software systems.
Experience developing embedded software using C/C++ for microcontrollers (PIC, STM32, NXP, Renesas, TI, or similar).
Experience developing bare-metal firmware for time-critical processing (A/D sampling, motor control, communications).
Familiarity with state machine architectures, interrupts, and Microchip Ethernet stack.
Familiarity with CAN, CAN-FD, Modbus, RS-485, USB, Ethernet, MQTT, BLE, Wi‑Fi.
Experience with MCU peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART, PWM, timers).
Experience with automated builds, unit testing, CI, and release management.
Experience using GIT and code reviews.

Responsibilities

Define and develop embedded software per design and test specs.
Conduct verification testing during development.
Collaborate across functions to improve processes and support manufacturing operations.
Develop and integrate innovative electro-mechanical products as part of cross-functional teams.
Optimize firmware for performance and reliability.
Implement secure bootloaders and OTA firmware update mechanisms (desirable).
Provide technical guidance and communicate complex concepts clearly.
Support testing, validation, and documentation activities.
