Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT is seeking an Engineer I- Mechanical to contribute to the design of Columbia Class HM&E systems and related hull valves. The role focuses on mechanical design, material procurement support, testing, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure reliable submarine performance.

You will work under D498 guidance, review CNs and VIRs, and assist with supplier oversight, drawings reviews, and calculations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 0-1 years of engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for development, installation and test of Columbia Class submarine systems in weapons handling, launches, retractable masts, hydraulics, steering/diving systems, hatches/doors, towed systems and hull valves.
  • Resolve design problems through Change Notices (CNs) and analyze design changes.
  • Respond to supplier problems via Vendor Information Requests (VIRs).
  • Provide oversight of suppliers.
  • Review test forms and logistics technical documentation products.
  • Resolve construction and material procurement problems.
  • Perform detail mechanical analysis and machine design development; oversee and support suppliers manufacturing parts from Electric Boat disclosures.
  • Evaluate design concepts and cost reduction ideas.
  • Interface with engineers from all disciplines, designers, shipbuilders, trades, suppliers, Navy Labs and NAVSEA personnel.
