Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT (New London area) seeks engineers to contribute to submarine design, construction, and maintenance for the U.S. Navy.

You will integrate with operations to plan and execute ship construction on the COLUMBIA Program, collaborating with trades across the yard. The role requires strong problem solving, independent initiative, and teamwork, with a focus on supporting deckplate work and achieving key milestones in Reactor Compartment, Engine Room, and ship

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher in mechanical, civil, chemical, aerospace, marine, or electrical engineering.
• 5–15 years of post graduate engineering experience.
• Understanding of shipyard planning, operations, quality, and test organizations.
• Experience with ship design and working in trades or trades supervision.
• Knowledge of project management principles as they relate to construction.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the trade group and trade supervision (General Foreman).
• Enable the General Foreman to maximize time planning and preparing trades for upcoming work by learning and navigating design disclosures and shipyard processes.
• Identify problems with work packages and initiate timely corrective actions to enable deckplate execution.
• Communicate operations priorities with the Module Lead and other organizations as required.
• Minimize production problems by ensuring operations understand critical aspects of upcoming work.
• Support trades during their work day, including extended hours and occasional weekend support.
