Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Maintenance of Equipment, LIRR. The role focuses on mechanical systems design, testing, and coordination of maintenance programs for rolling stock.

You will lead engineering activities, supervise staff, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards while coordinating with cross-functional teams to improve reliability and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; in lieu of degree four years of related experience accepted.
• Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in a railcar maintenance facility or similar setting.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
• Strong knowledge of equipment design, engineering drawings, and materials standards.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate engineering analysis and design for new/rebuilt railcar systems.
• Develop and evaluate mechanical drawings and maintenance procedures.
• Prepare specifications for component purchases and services for rail cars.
• Supervise engineering staff and provide technical guidance as needed.
• Evaluate bid proposals for rail rolling stock components and services.
• Conduct testing, teardown inspections, and root-cause analysis of failures.
