Job summary

Penobscot Valley Hospital is seeking a Diagnostic Coder in Health Information. This as-needed role covers gaps in coverage and may be remote within Maine, with in-person duties in Lincoln, ME when requested.

Responsibilities include reviewing and processing records, assigning ICD/CPT codes, verifying record completeness, sending records to scanning, answering inquiries, retrieving information, providing visitor/customer service, generating reports, and supporting insurance follow-up with PFS.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Training in the assignment of ICD and CPT codes.
• Medical secretarial training and/or experience in hospital or physician office medical coding.
• Basic computer and typing skills.
• Maintaining CCS credentials through AHIMA or AAPC.
• Able to come in person to PVH in Lincoln, ME when requested.

Responsibilities

• Review and process records.
• Assign codes.
• Check records for completeness and distribute deficiencies.
• Send records to scanning at completion.
• Answer telephone promptly.
• Retrieve information requested.
• Provide customer service support to all visitors.
• Complete statistical reports as advised by the Department Director.
• Work with PFS on Insurance follow-up.
• Complete other duties assigned.
