Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer for the Electric Power Division to design, develop, and implement automation and control solutions for generator control switchgear systems.

You will drive retrofit and new projects from concept through commissioning, collaborating across teams and customer sites. The role requires PLC/HMI experience, strong power knowledge, and the ability to travel 35–50% while working remotely from the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience with PLCs, HMIs, and distributed control systems.
• Willingness to travel 35–50% and work remotely from the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Identify retrofit opportunities and define project scope with Dealer and Factory teams.
• Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator paralleling control systems.
• Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
• Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
• Coordinate with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
• Perform risk assessments and support field performance of projects.
• Train technicians, customers, and internal teams on maintenance and operation.
