Job summary

Applied Engineering seeks an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems. You’ll own schematics, BOMs, tests, and collaborate across disciplines, mentoring junior engineers and driving safe, compliant power solutions.

You will translate system requirements into robust designs, stay current with power tech, and support planning, estimation, and supplier collaboration in a remote-friendly, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience with switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience with NEC, UL, and derating criteria.
• Proven design documentation, reviews, testing, and troubleshooting experience.
• Familiarity with design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance.
• NFPA 70E certification.
• Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA.
• Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems.
• Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Capable of working independently and as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early-career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies.
• Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners.
• Contribute to projects that impact communities across North America.
• Apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation.
