Job summary

Applied Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join a team focused on high-quality design and career growth. You will own electrical subsystems, validate designs, and mentor engineers while collaborating across disciplines.

The role emphasizes design reviews, prototype builds, and staying current with power solutions technology while supporting projects across North America.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria.
• Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions.
• NFPA 70E Certification and knowledge of UL standards (UL1008, UL508A, UL1691, UL489, UL924, UL1741, UL9540).
• Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early-career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies.
• Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners.
