Job summary

Applied Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead design and validation across major subsystems. You will own schematics, calculations, specifications, and BOMs while driving design reviews, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.

You will collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, and quality teams and mentor junior engineers. A strong background in electrical power systems, NEC/UL criteria, and design documentation is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria.
• Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions.
• Ability to specify safe and effective prototype testing practices.
• Detail‑oriented, proactive, and effective in fast‑paced environments.
• Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, ETAP, SKM, or similar tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
• Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA.
• Experience in research or new product development environments.
• NFPA 70E Certification.
• Knowledge of UL standards including UL1008, UL508A, UL1691, UL489, UL924, UL1741, UL9540, and others.
• Understanding of NFPA 70, 101, 99, and related codes preferred.
• Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems preferred.
• Capable of working independently and as a team member.

• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies.
• Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners.
• Contribute to projects that impact communities across North America.
• Apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation.
