Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking an ED Coder to support outpatient coding and abstracting, using the 3M encoder and EMR to accurately code ED, urgent care, and outpatient encounters. You will ensure correct ICD-10-CM and CPT coding with necessary modifiers, while upholding quality and productivity targets across facilities.

The role emphasizes timely review of charges, maintenance of coding accuracy, and strong knowledge of APC guidelines.

Qualifications

• Two years of coding experience, preferably in outpatient settings.
• Current AHIMA credentials (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P) or AAPC credentials (COC, CIC, CPC-H, CPC) required or certified within 1 year of hire.
• High School Diploma/G.E.D. is required.
• Basic knowledge of APC assignment and outpatient coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic and CPT procedural codes for ED, Emergent Urgent Care, and Urgent Care encounters with appropriate modifiers.
• Review ED Charge Analyst charges to ensure alignment with CPT codes and billing accuracy.
• Abstract relevant clinical information from outpatient records into designated systems and manage work queues.
