Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Emergency Department Coder to ensure accurate medical coding across outpatient services, ED encounters, and related workflows. You will collaborate with physicians and HIM staff to support compliance and optimize revenue cycle performance.

This fully remote role requires CPC or CCS certification, solid ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS knowledge, and a proven ability to achieve 98% coding accuracy while meeting productivity goals.

Qualifications

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCS certification required.
• Experience coding outpatient, ED, observation, and related encounters.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS and regulatory guidelines.
• Ability to obtain clarifications from physicians via coding queries.

Responsibilities

• Review documentation and assign diagnosis and procedure codes for outpatient surgery, observation, ED, and diagnostic encounters.
• Communicate with physicians and staff to obtain coding clarifications.
• Use encoder applications to assign codes in line with policies and guidelines.
• Maintain coding accuracy rate of 98% while meeting productivity standards.
