Job summary

Shelter House seeks a DV Hotline Specialist to cover Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-5pm, via remote work. The role responds to Fairfax County domestic violence calls, conducts risk assessments, offers resources and safety planning, and collaborates with shelter staff to ensure smooth transitions for callers seeking shelter.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in human services or related field, 2+ years’ DV/SV experience, and strong empathy with trauma-informed care.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in human services, Social Work or related field or combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years' experience working with victims of DV/SV or Human Trafficking.
• Knowledge in counseling techniques and experience in trauma-informed domestic and sexual violence.
• Clear written communication and active listening skills.
• Computer skills – including work, Excel, email and the internet.

Responsibilities

• Conduct crisis screenings over the phone for shelter entry or DV/SV resources.
• Provide emotional support through listening, trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy and safety planning.
• Provide problem solving, safety planning and education to callers.
• Coordinate with community agencies to provide comprehensive services.
• Maintain caller privacy and accurate documentation in required systems.
