Job summary

Shelter House in Fairfax County seeks a DV Hotline Specialist to cover the 24-hour domestic violence hotline remotely. You will assess callers for shelter entry eligibility, provide resources, safety planning, and trauma-informed crisis intervention.

The role requires empathy, strong written and oral communication, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. A bachelor’s in human services or related field and 2+ years DV/SV experience are preferred; weekend/overnight coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, Social Work or related field, or combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years’ experience working with victims of DV/SV or Human Trafficking.
• Knowledge in counseling techniques and trauma-informed care.
• Clear written communication and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and active listening.
• Computer skills – including work, email and internet.

Responsibilities

• Conduct crisis screenings over the phone and assess shelter entry eligibility.
• Provide emotional support, trauma-informed crisis intervention, advocacy and safety planning.
• Provide resources and education; coordinate with community agencies for comprehensive services.
• Document all calls and maintain caller privacy and confidentiality.
• Navigate digital platforms for tracking/storing information; complete tasks during shift.
