Job summary

Geisinger is seeking an experienced Medical Coder with DRG coding expertise for a full-time remote role. You will review inpatient and outpatient records, assign codes, and ensure compliant DRG determinations.

Collaboration with physicians and coding staff is essential to maintain accurate documentation and optimal reimbursement. The position requires AHIMA or AAPC certification at hire and a minimum of three years of relevant coding experience.

Qualifications

• Requires AHIMA or AAPC certification upon hire (CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, CCA or equivalent).
• Minimum 3 years of relevant coding experience.
• Health information coding knowledge including DRG/disease coding guidelines and standard coding rules.

Responsibilities

• Review hospital and professional records to identify principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
• Translate clinical documentation into coded formats for billing and reporting.
• Determine DRG assignments and code sequencing to maximize compliant reimbursement.
• Query physicians to clarify documentation to ensure complete coding accuracy.
• Assist with training and guidance for newer coding staff and maintain coding guidelines compliance.
