Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor focused on electric utility design engineering. You will lead a team to develop construction work packages, perform engineering calculations, and ensure quality across projects from 4 kV to 35 kV, including field and office work.

Ideal applicants bring 4+ years of relevant experience, a Bachelor's degree, proficiency in AutoCAD/MicroStation, GIS familiarity, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of prior relevant experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with NESC standards, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe.
• Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc, DDS and SAP.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to review other engineer designs with attention to errors.
• Some travel and field-work willingness (15-25% travel).
• Experience with ESRI and GIS is preferred, but not required.
• Prior team leadership experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead team of 3-8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems from 4kV through 35kV.
• Oversee onboarding, performance, and day-to-day assignments of direct reports.
• Act as technical lead for engineers/designers, including training junior staff.
• Work with Engineering Manager to maintain project scope, schedule and budget.
• Review client-provided work and communicate progress, issues and schedule.
• Ensure compliance with safety, design and quality standards.
• Develop permitting documents for AHJs and coordinate with permit agencies.
• Coordinate with right-of-way specialists, system owners and field personnel.
• Perform engineering calculations including pole loading, guying, conductor sag/tension, voltage drop and flicker.
• Conduct QAQC reviews of others' work for client submittals.
• Provide engineering support during construction and post-construction reviews.
• Conduct root-cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles.
