Job summary

Leidos in New Jersey is seeking Distribution Engineers & Designers to deliver design and construction work packages for electric utility customers, covering overhead and underground systems. You will collaborate with clients to ensure high-quality engineering outputs and adherence to standards.

This role involves field data collection, collaboration with field teams, and occasional travel within New Jersey.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience in distribution engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred.
• Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design, including Customer interaction and process documentation.
• Experience with utility reliability projects.
• Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC.
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some travel could be anticipated (reimbursed).
• Willingness to perform both field and office work; some field data collection may be required.

Responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers.
• Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
