Job summary

Oliver James Group is engaged to fill the Director of SEC & Technical Accounting role for a publicly traded P&C insurance company. You will own SEC reporting, technical accounting, and complex matters, partnering with the CFO and CAO to drive policy and reporting quality.

You will lead 10-K/10-Q processes, monitor FASB and SEC updates, and collaborate across finance, legal, and risk to ensure accurate financial reporting. Remote nationwide opportunity with mentorship and strategic impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a public company or Big 4 environment.
• Strong understanding of SEC reporting and U.S. GAAP.
• P&C insurance industry experience preferred, incl. reinsurance, investments, reserves, acquisitions.

Responsibilities

• Lead the SEC financial reporting process, including 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and related filings.
• Oversee technical accounting research and conclusions on complex transactions.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and memoranda.
• Monitor FASB, SEC, PCAOB developments and assess impact.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate accounting implications of new transactions.
• Advise senior finance leadership on complex and judgmental matters.
• Coordinate with external auditors during SEC reporting and technical accounting processes.
• Lead implementation of new accounting standards as appropriate.
• Prepare audit committee materials and presentations on financial reporting.
