Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Director of AI Engineering (Remote Eligible) to lead the Generative AI Training platform, overseeing distributed training, fine-tuning, RL workflows, and fair-share GPU scheduling across teams.

You will mentor engineers, shape long-term AI platform strategy, partner with research, compliance and risk, and drive enterprise standards for Responsible AI while ensuring scalable, cost-efficient infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields with 8+ years of AI/ML experience, or a Master's with 6+ years.
• At least 3 years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products.
• Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and operation of core platform systems.
• Make high-judgment build-vs-buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies.
• Invent techniques to improve scalability, cost, throughput, and reliability.
• Own GPU capacity planning and cost governance.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap.
• Attract and retain top AI talent and mentor teams.
• Translate AI strategy into portfolio-level execution plans.
• Scale AI engineering practices across teams with shared infrastructure.
• Establish enterprise standard for Responsible AI and governance.
