Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and operate security controls across the enterprise data estate, enabling secure data practices for analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and relational databases like Azure SQL and SQL Server.

You will work remotely from approved states, collaborating with multiple IT teams to enforce least-privilege access, encryption, and secure data pipelines while providing hands-on security support and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in information technology, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field, including 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with SQL, including assessment of queries, permissions, schemas, and database security configurations.
• Hands-on implementation of classification, labeling, masking, data loss prevention, secure integration, monitoring, auditing, and logging controls.

Responsibilities

• Implement data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including classification and labeling enforcement, masking, tokenization, redaction, and de-identification.
• Operate encryption controls for data at rest and in transit, including CMK management and key rotation.
• Automate control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation via scripting and IaC.
