Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and maintain data protection controls across enterprise platforms, including encryption, key management, and access controls. You will harden configurations for cloud data services and lead automated security deployments across data pipelines.

You will collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams to ensure compliant, secure data solutions and support audits with technical evidence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• Data protection lifecycle including classification, encryption, key and secrets management, access and entitlement controls, monitoring, retention, and secure disposal.
• Proficiency with SQL, including ability to assess queries, permissions, schemas, and database security configurations.

Responsibilities

• Implement, operate, and improve data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including classification, labeling, masking, de-identification, and encryption.
• Enforce least-privilege access across data platforms, databases, workspaces, and pipelines; perform entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server, data lakes, and storage services.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, sharing and export workflows; secure service identities and network paths.
• Automate control deployment, configuration assessment, evidence collection, and compliance validation using scripting, IaC, and platform APIs.
• Support audits and risk assessments by producing technical evidence of controls effectiveness.
