Job summary

Marqeta is seeking a Data Governance Platform Engineer to design and lead the data governance stack within its Data and ML team. You will translate policy needs into platform capabilities, set direction across the platform, and partner with TPMs and engineering managers on planning.

The role is remote within the United States, focusing on building a scalable catalog, contract model, and quality framework to support regulatory obligations and data stewardship at scale.

Qualifications

• Built a control plane or policy engine with production experience.
• Can explain failed checks to downstream consumers and backfills (CI/write path).
• Treats platform users as customers and drove adoption without coercion.
• Decided what to build on a multi-year platform roadmap and can discuss a past misstep.

Responsibilities

• Design and lead the data governance platform in production.
• Define governance policy translation and enforcement in CI and data pipelines.
• Collaborate with TPMs and engineering managers on planning and prioritization.
• Create evidence-generating controls and compliant data quality checks.
