Job summary

Nelnet is seeking a Data Pipeline Engineer to design, build, and scale data pipelines on Google Cloud for GenAI use cases in higher education and state & local government clients. Remote/hybrid role with a mix of in-office collaboration and remote work.

You will leverage BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataplex, and DLP to classify data, enforce access controls, and ensure FERPA compliance while partnering with GCP/Gemini and AgentOps teams on delivery and quality.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building data pipelines and ELT/ETL processes for analytics or GenAI use cases.
• Strong SQL skills and Python for pipeline development and data transformation.
• Experience with data governance/classification tooling (Dataplex, Cloud DLP).
• Familiarity with FERPA and higher-ed data privacy requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using BigQuery and Dataflow.
• Monitor pipeline reliability, performance, and cost at scale.
• Classify data and enforce access controls for AI readiness.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver data for GenAI solutions.
