Job summary

Smartlink is seeking an experienced Data Center Environmental Health & Safety Manager to lead site safety for hyperscale data center projects and live operations. Qualifications

  • 7+ years of construction/industrial safety experience (data center preferred).
  • OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500 (or equivalent advanced safety training) preferred.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Demonstrated experience with incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions through closure.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and coaching skills; able to influence crews and contractors in fast-paced, high-risk environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, LOTO, fall protection, hot work, ladder/MEWP safety, and material-handling controls.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, JHAs/PTPs, permits, and SOPs/MOPs/EOPs; familiarity with client standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS reporting/inspection platforms; excellent documentation discipline.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass all required data-center background checks for site access.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, implement, and continuously improve the site EHS program aligned to OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, environmental requirements, and client standards.
  • Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for onsite leadership, client EHS, regulatory agencies, and audits/inspections.
  • Develop and enforce SOPs/MOPs/EOPs, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs/PTPs), and controls for high-risk work.
  • Lead, schedule, and coach EHS Safety Representatives; set priorities, review findings, and drive consistent application of standards.
  • Maintain a visible daily field presence across data halls, MEP spaces, splicing areas, and construction zones.
  • Conduct daily safety huddles, verify JHAs/PTPs, and review high-risk activities (energized work, elevated work, rigging/lifts).
  • Oversee fiber-specific safety practices: shard control, eye/hand protection, clean splice areas, solvent handling, contamination prevention, and end-face cleanliness protocols.
  • Ensure permit compliance, including LOTO, hot work, elevated work, confined space, and other site-specific authorizations.
  • Lead incident and near-miss response; conduct joint investigations with Client EHS, perform root-cause analysis, and drive CAPA to closure.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, training matrices, SDS libraries, and EHS reports; ensure audit-ready documentation and timely submissions.
  • Conduct risk assessments for energized work, fall protection, material handling, and high-airflow environments; verify effectiveness of controls.
  • Partner with project management, construction, logistics, and operations to sequence work safely and prevent conflicts in live environments.
  • Deliver or coordinate required training (LOTO Authorized, NFPA 70E awareness/qualification, fall protection, hot work, spill response, First Aid/CPR/AED).
  • Drive safety-culture initiatives: toolbox talks, near-miss campaigns, safety stand-downs, and coaching.
  • Provide routine EHS dashboards/updates to leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Oversee chemical management, spill prevention/response, and waste programs; support SPCC compliance.
  • Support 24/5-24/7 operations as needed for maintenance windows, change events, shutdowns, and incident response.
  • Other duties as assigned.
