Job summary

Balor Games is seeking a senior Controller to anchor the accounting function in a fully remote role. You will own the month-end close, GAAP compliance, and reporting for leadership and investors, partnering with the CFO to scale the finance team as the company grows.

This role emphasizes strong technical accounting, M&A support, and process improvements, with responsibility for treasury, intercompany, royalties, and debt instruments.

Qualifications

• CPA preferred; active license in good standing.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in high-growth environments (public accounting and in-house).
• Series A/B experience as senior accounting voice for investors/boards.
• QuickBooks Online expertise; ability to run a clean close today and consider ERP upgrades.
• M&A experience, including QoE, working capital true-ups, and post-close integration.
• Strong technical accounting, including US GAAP, ASC 606, capitalized software costs, and stock-based compensation.
• Debt instrument accounting experience (OID, warrants, modifications, EIR).
• Familiarity with contingent consideration valuation and CECL methodology for receivables.
• Builder mindset; comfortable doing work now and hiring/mentoring a team tomorrow.
• Excellent communication to leadership, board, and non-finance audiences.
• Location: Fully remote. Pacific Time Zone preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage the general ledger and month-end close in QuickBooks Online, including entries and reconciliations.
• Deliver an accurate, timely close with a clean reporting package for leadership and investors.
• Own AP, AR, payroll, expenses, corporate card programs, and bank reconciliations.
• Maintain COA and GAAP policies for revenue recognition (ASC 606), royalties, and dev costs.
• Track royalties, recoupment, and deal-level P&L for catalog; report advances transparently.
• Account for debt instruments and equity warrants; evaluate modifications.
• Model contingent consideration (earnouts) and CECL for receivables.
• Manage foreign currency transactions and related gains/losses.
• Coordinate tax compliance with CFO and external advisors.
• Support audits with CFO; coordinate schedules and documentation.
• Assist in fundraising, cap table support, and potential M&A due diligence.
• Build accounting team as the company scales; evaluate ERP needs.
