Job summary

Upstart, a digital‑first AI lending marketplace, seeks a Compliance & Controls Associate for Auto Servicing to translate regulatory requirements into practical controls across servicing, repossession, and dealer oversight. This is a First Line of Defense role, embedded with Product and Engineering.

You will design and operate first‑line controls, monitor regulatory obligations, and develop trust across the organization to support compliant, scalable processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of compliance or regulatory experience in financial services, with consumer‑protection knowledge for auto lending.
• Auto servicing knowledge including bankruptcy, repossession, and recovery.
• Ability to design, document, and implement risk and control processes.
• Experience working with compliance, risk, legal, and business stakeholders on regulatory initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, and operate first‑line controls across auto servicing, repossession, recovery, and dealer/channel oversight.
• Meet regulatory obligations across loan servicing initiatives and strategies.
• Identify issues and support remediation with action plans and documentation.
• Develop monitoring routines, reporting, and KPIs/KRIs to surface risk.
• Support complaint oversight and translate findings into improvements.
• Translate complex compliance requirements into scalable, tech‑friendly processes.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Risk, Legal, Operations and 2LOD Compliance to strengthen 1LOD oversight.
• Advocate for compliance and identify tooling and GenAI to improve reviews.
• Prepare and support reporting for the compliance program and servicing organization.
