Upstart is seeking a Compliance Risk & Controls Manager for its unsecured line of credit product. You will lead cross-functional compliance workstreams, translating regulatory requirements into practical product and operational solutions.

This is a First Line of Defense (1LOD) role, embedded with Product and Engineering teams, building scalable processes and audit-ready documentation to support launches and regulatory readiness.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of product compliance or risk experience for unsecured lending.
• Experience interpreting consumer lending regs (FCRA/Reg V) and credit reporting.
• Leading compliance workstreams for product launches or major enhancements.
• Partnering with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk teams.
• Developing audit-ready documentation, controls, and processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end compliance workstreams for unsecured line products, including disclosures and statements.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk to embed compliant design.
• Create and maintain governance, controls, and audit-ready docs.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives and ensure readiness for launches.
• Identify risks and implement practical improvements to scale responsibly.
• Share expertise and guide teams through regulatory considerations.
