Job summary

Mackinnon Bruce International seeks a Controls / Commissioning Engineer for a leading international manufacturer of packaging and automation systems. This remote, field-based role involves commissioning and supporting equipment at customer facilities across the US, with travel on the East Coast.

You will set up, test, troubleshoot and start‑up automated machinery, review PLC code, and work with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, plus exposure to Siemens/Beckhoff.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in industrial automation, machinery or controls.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs.
• Troubleshoot PLC code using Ladder Logic or Structured Text.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Experience commissioning or servicing automated machinery.
• Understanding of industrial networks, VFDs and machine controls.
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
• Degree in Automation, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with packaging machinery, warehouse automation or robotics is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Commissioning and start-up of complex automated machinery.
• Troubleshooting and modifying PLC programs using Ladder Logic and/or Structured Text.
• Working with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs; exposure to Siemens/Beckhoff advantageous.
• Electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting.
• Configuring VFDs, servos and industrial networks.
• Setting up communication buses and network switches.
• Managing interlocks with third‑party machinery.
• Integrating equipment such as labelers, checkweighers, barcode readers and vision systems.
• Reading electrical schematics and supporting FAT/SAT activities.
• Collaborating with Project Managers and customer engineering teams.
