Job summary

Parkland Health is seeking a Coding Specialist II to code and verify charge data across ED, SDS, OPC, OBS and OB/newborn encounters. The role emphasizes accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, HCC and E/M coding per CMS rules and Parkland policies.

Requires 2 years of acute care coding experience, AHIMA or AAPC certification, and strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology. This is a 100% virtual position with remote work options across TX, AR, WI and FL.

Qualifications

• Must have two (2) years of coding experience in an acute care setting or diverse clinical specialties.
• Must be CCS or RHIT/RHIA or CPC/CPC-H/COC certified per AHIMA/AAPC guidelines.
• Score a minimum of 80% on a pre-employment inpatient/outpatient coding test; 95% accuracy exempts contract coders.

Responsibilities

• Code, abstract and conduct charge quality review for ED, SDS, OPC, OBS and OB/newborn encounters.
• Assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, HCC and E/M codes per CMS requirements for professional and hospital billing.
• Maintain 95% accuracy on quality reviews and productivity standards.
• Stay updated with coding guidelines and Parkland policies; mentor junior coders as needed.
