Job summary

Rush University Medical Center is seeking a Coding Supervisor in the Medical Records department. The role oversees coding operations, supports coding staff, and improves efficiency using Epic automation and related software.

You will model Rush values and lead a team with a focus on accuracy and timely processing. The candidate will have extensive coding experience, AHIMA/AAPC certification, and strong communication skills to train staff and collaborate with clinicians and IT teams.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in health information technology, healthcare management, or 10 years of industry experience in lieu of a degree.
• AHIMA or AAPC Certification (such as CCS, CCA, CPC, COC, CPMA, RHIT or RHIA) required.
• Five years of coding experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word.
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary for communication and training of health information management concepts.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks with excellent time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads daily operations of coding staff responsible for accounts within Epic work queues.
• Understand and protect patient information per HIPAA and related regulations.
• Provide day-to-day staffing and activity monitoring to ensure smooth operations.
• Collaborate with Epic D&IS teams and vendors to optimize workflows.
• Interact with clinicians to ensure documentation and coding accuracy.
• Use critical thinking to create solutions and collaborate with auditors, CDI, and revenue cycle teams.
• Establish productivity and quality standards for coding accuracy.
• Strategically assign work and promote cross-training for growth.
• Build partnerships across revenue cycle, compliance, and clinical areas to meet goals.
• Keep abreast of regulatory changes and train impacted staff.
• Identify trends and lead performance improvements across teams.
• Develop self and team through ongoing education and development.
• Collect, interpret, and communicate performance data to drive decisions.
