Job summary

UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is hiring a Coder II to join our Coding Department. This is a remote, full-time position with standard weekday hours.

You will perform professional coding focusing on general surgery, review physician and ancillary documentation, apply CPT/ICD codes and modifiers, and resolve denials to maximize reimbursement. You will maintain productivity metrics and participate in ongoing education to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and CMS rules.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of general surgery coding.
• Experience with ICD/CPT and modifiers.
• Familiarity with CMS rules and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Utilize computer applications and resources essential to completing coding efficiently.
• Meet and maintain charge lag and productivity standards within the established timeframe.
• Refer problem accounts to coding or management personnel for resolution.
• Identify incomplete documentation and query physicians to obtain missing details.
• Monitor and resolve coding edits and denials to maximize reimbursement.
• Maintain daily productivity statistics and meet coding accuracy standards.
• Apply ICD and CPT codes and modifiers to determine acuity and billing correctness.
• Adhere to department policies, participate in coding meetings, and review updated CPT guidelines.
