Job summary

Cardinal Health is seeking a Cloud Database Engineer to support WaveMark Solutions, owning production and non-production reliability, uptime, performance, security, automation of maintenance tasks and deployments, and backup/recovery strategies for cloud databases.

You will collaborate with software development and IT teams to drive automation, observability, resilience, and continuous delivery practices, in a remote US-based environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of experience managing production Oracle databases in a regulated healthcare environment preferred.
• Experience with Oracle database administration and cloud platforms such as AWS RDS or GCP preferred.
• Experience with automation, scripting, and deployment processes preferred.
• Knowledge of observability frameworks and telemetry-driven operations preferred.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code preferred.
• Understanding of healthcare compliance standards, such as HIPAA, FedRAMP, or HITRUST preferred.
• Experience with Kubernetes-based environments preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Administer Oracle (primary), MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases in managed cloud environments.
• Build and manage intelligent monitoring, auditing, logging, and alerting systems to proactively track database health.
• Establish and maintain operational standards, documentation, and runbooks.
• Support application deployments and database releases.
• Analyze and optimize database performance across production and non-production environments.
• Perform root cause analysis of performance incidents.
• Design, execute, and automate database refresh processes between production and non-production environments.
• Design and implement repeatable data masking processes for non-production environments.
• Collaborate with security, compliance, and application teams to support regulatory audits.
• Partner with security teams to enhance and enforce data governance, patching, secret management, and access controls.
• Partner with software development teams to modernize deployment automation and collaborate on modern data movement architectures.
• Design and test backup, restore, replication, and failure strategies to meet business recovery time and recovery point objectives.
