Job summary

Optum is seeking an experienced medical coder educator to align coding guidance with clinical leadership and provider education. You will audit, train, and support providers and coders across multiple specialties, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Edits/Denials teams, annual education initiatives, and ad hoc audits to promote continuous improvement and revenue integrity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• AHIMA/AAPC coding credentials to be maintained annually.
• 3+ years Physician medical coding in a multi-specialty clinic.
• 2+ years Residency Program coding with surgical E/M and specialty exposure.
• 2+ years providing expert coding guidance to physicians and coders.

Responsibilities

• Bridge between coding teams and providers to resolve inquiries.
• Analyze trends with Edits/Denials teams and implement education or system edits.
• Partner with clinical leadership for new services and coding compliance.
• Deliver annual coding education and audits for providers.
• Conduct and educate on provider audits to identify revenue opportunities.
• Educate coders/providers on audit findings and trends.
