Job summary

Humana Inc. invites a Research Scientist 2 (Remote) to apply statistical and epidemiologic methods to large healthcare data, identify trends, and size opportunities to improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs for Medicare Advantage members.

You will write SQL, SAS, and Python, design outcomes studies, and present insights to business partners. Requires a Master’s in a quantitative field and 2+ years of healthcare analytics experience.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, Engineering, and related fields
• 2+ years of experience using SQL, SAS and Python to create datasets and analytics variables
• Experience applying research methods to transform large data into actionable insights
• Experience with experimental and quasi-experimental methods (RCTs, propensity matching, diff-in-diff)
• Strong interest in healthcare and improving health outcomes
• Ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team and communicate insights to partners

Responsibilities

• Do exploratory analysis on populations, trends, and clinical conditions to inform opportunities for trend savings and outcomes improvement
• Collaborate with clinicians to extract clinical information from medical, pharmacy, and lab claims for analytics and modeling
• Use descriptive and epidemiological methods for analyses
• Design outcomes studies and evaluate programs using RCTs, propensity matching, or diff-in-diff models
• Conduct literature reviews and intervention research to assess engagement and effect sizes
• Write code in SQL, SAS, and Python to assemble data, create variables, design visuals and models
• Translate analytic results into actionable insights for business partners
• Understand strategy and objectives and how they link to related areas
• Make research method decisions, even in ambiguous situations
