Job summary

Erie Insurance in Richmond, VA is seeking a remote claims professional to handle liability and property claims under supervision. Work-from-home setup preferred for candidates near Erie’s Richmond Branch Office.

You will investigate, adjudicate, negotiate settlements, and maintain knowledge of state laws while obtaining required licenses within 45 days. Regular attendance and a standard 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. ET schedule with occasional shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of related claims handling or customer service experience.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred.
• Successful completion of Introduction to Insurance (INTRO) and Introduction to Claims (AIC 30) preferred.
• License to be obtained within 45 days of employment (external) or 90 days (internal).

Responsibilities

• Investigates and adjudicates claims within designated authority, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
• Establishes contact with all parties involved in the claim.
• Evaluates and negotiates claims, recognizes subrogation opportunities, and initiates payment or denial.
• Responds to inquiries from policyholders, agents, carriers, claimants and others.
• Learns state liability laws, motor vehicle codes, and no fault/medical management requirements.
• With supervisor guidance, responds to intercompany arbitrations and files supporting documents.
• Attends trainings to stay current on policy changes or new legislation.
• Provides support for property claims during periods of heavy volume.
