Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to review patient records, determine accurate billing codes, and ensure supporting documentation supports diagnoses and procedures.

You will interpret ICD-9 codes (note: the HTML mentions ICD-9) and CPT codes, verify completeness, and prepare documentation for billing. You will collaborate with physicians to resolve coding questions, supervise coders as needed, and participate in audits and education to improve

Qualifications

• Must hold AHIMA or AAPC coding credentials as listed.
• Experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding.

Responsibilities

• Identify all pertinent facts in documentation to select comprehensive diagnoses and procedures.
• Code evaluation and management to CPT and diagnose to ICD coding.
• Meet with physicians to review documentation and obtain signatures.
• Lead coders and assist staff with terminology and policy interpretation.
• Assist in increasing physician awareness of documentation requirements.
• Prepare case reports and initiate follow-up for billing.
