Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must hold one of the listed coding certifications at hire and obtain an additional credential within one year.
• 1–3 years of coding experience is required.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; encoder and EMR experience preferred.
• Ability to utilize the internet and electronic resources for research purposes.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and assigns appropriate codes to medical records, including CPT, ICD, and MS-DRG, for reimbursement and compliance.
• Abstracts essential data for quality improvement and communicates issues to the Clinical Coding Manager and Supervisor.
• Maintains technical knowledge of coding updates and resolves pre-bill edits and denials for assigned accounts.
