Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a full-time, remote-friendly customer service specialist in the DC area. You will handle member inquiries, coordinate referrals, and work with hospitals and clinics to manage services. Training is conducted virtually from home, with some travel to markets as needed.

Hours are 8:00 am–5:00 pm EST, with possible overtime. The role emphasizes high-volume, phone-based support, data entry, and triage within a supportive clinical team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• 1+ years of customer service experience analyzing and solving customer problems.
• 1+ years of experience in a telephonic customer service position, such as a call center.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel (ability to create, edit, save and send documents and spreadsheets).
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (domestic).
• Ability to work full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work our normal business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST.

Responsibilities

• Manage the intake of members or the admission/discharge information post notification.
• Work with hospitals, clinics, facilities and the clinical team to manage requests for services from members and/or providers.
• Manage the referral process, processing incoming and outgoing referrals and prior authorizations, including intake, notification and census roles.
• Provide appropriate triage and care coordination notification cases for non-clinical assessment/intervention.
• Handle resolution/inquiries from members and/or providers. This is high volume, customer service environment. You'll need to be efficient, productive and thorough dealing with our members over the phone.
