Job summary

Jobgether is partnering with a California-based healthcare organization to fill an Employment Counsel role in California. The attorney will provide strategic and day-to-day guidance on employment and labor matters, collaborating with HR, Finance, Risk, and leadership to mitigate risks and support business initiatives.

The role requires a CA bar, JD, and 5–7 years of employment law experience, including in-house exposure.

Qualifications

• J.D. or equivalent from an accredited law school with strong academics.
• Active California Bar admission in good standing.
• 5–7 years of employment law experience, including some in-house exposure.
• Experience advising clients on employment matters, training, and handling complex litigation.
• Extensive knowledge of federal and California labor/employment laws and regulations.
• Experience supervising other attorneys and coordinating external counsel.
• Familiarity with employee benefit plans, contract review, settlements, and dispute resolution.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive employment and labor law support to leadership and HR, with risk management and dispute resolution.
• Offer day-to-day legal counsel to HR, Finance, Risk, Benefits, and executives across the organization.
• Develop employee relations strategies and mitigate employment-related risks.
• Manage significant employment litigation, wage/hour disputes, and agency proceedings.
• Oversee settlements and responses to agency actions and single-plaintiff complaints.
• Guide the organization in proceedings before federal and state agencies with sound legal strategies.
• Review contracts to protect organizational interests and advise on employee benefits matters.
• Supervise external counsel and junior attorneys; provide training and guidance to internal teams.
