Job summary

Spokane County is seeking a Building Inspector in the Building and Code Enforcement department. The role involves inspecting structures for compliance with International Residential and other codes, enforcing violations, and coordinating with contractors and owners.

Position is primarily remote with a weekly in-office meeting to start the workday; some in-office work may be required based on department needs and inspection volumes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 3 years of related work experience.
• ICC Residential Building Inspector certification is required; one additional ICC/ICBO certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts on-site inspections for IRC, IBC, IFC, and related codes.
• Enforces compliance by identifying violations and issuing corrective actions.
• Coordinates with contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners.
• Reviews proposed residential/commercial plans and performs complex inspections.
• Maintains required records and testifies in enforcement actions when needed.
