Job summary

Hadron Energy, Inc. seeks a System Design Engineer – Balance of Plant (BOP) for a full‑time remote role in the United States. You will lead non‑reactor system definition, optimization, and integration to support Hadron’s micro modular reactor technology.

The role requires strong systems engineering, power plant design, and BOP experience, plus collaboration with reactor, electrical, and licensing teams to deliver a deployable, cost‑effective plant architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years in power plant systems design, balance-of-plant engineering, or industrial process systems.
• Strong grasp of thermal-fluid systems and plant auxiliary systems.
• Experience with system requirements, engineering specs, and design documentation.
• Familiar with pumps, heat exchangers, cooling, water treatment, condensers, and related equipment.
• Experience coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and consulting firms.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, definition, and optimization of Balance of Plant (BOP) systems for reactor operation and power generation.
• Develop system requirements, criteria, and functional specifications for BOP systems.
• Support plant layouts, system configurations, and interface definitions between reactor and non-reactor systems.
• Coordinate and oversee subcontracted engineering activities for BOP design and analysis.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables, calculations, drawings, and reports by external firms.
• Maintain system design descriptions, P&IDs, flow diagrams, and interface control documents.
• Perform evaluations and trade studies to improve efficiency, reliability, and cost.
• Assist in design and selection of major BOP equipment such as heat exchangers, pumps, and cooling systems.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, civil, structural, and mechanical teams for integrated design.
• Support safety analyses, licensing activities, and regulatory documentation with BOP inputs.
• Participate in design reviews, vendor evaluations, procurement, and equipment qualification.
• Identify opportunities for standardization and cost reduction across BOP scope.
