Job summary

Canam Steel Corporation is seeking a BIM Specialist to develop and improve internal BIM processes and collaborate with software experts. You will prepare steel joist and deck models from contract documents in line with customer requirements and industry practices while aligning with CSC objectives.

You will work with internal stakeholders and software developers to advance BIM workflows, attend coordination meetings, and ensure accurate data across models and drawings.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Drafting or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; Bachelor's degree a plus.
• Five years of drafting experience; high school diploma or equivalent may substitute for education.
• Minimum of 8 years of related steel experience; Joist and deck experience a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of Tekla experience in preparing steel models.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical procedures.
• Clear understanding of steel designations on contract drawings.
• Ability to model complex projects without constant supervision.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with customers.

Responsibilities

• Work with internal stakeholders and software developers to improve the BIM process.
• Attend BIM coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain a list of projects with BIM requirements and track milestones.
• Prepare models using CSC software and Tekla for customer submissions.
• Verify data against drawings and ensure accuracy in models.
• Check models for completeness and correctness.
• Interpret feedback to modify CSC components in models.
• Generate bills of materials for CSC products from models and layouts.
• Coordinate with customer's steel model and other design models as needed.
• Maintain project files and notify management of scope changes.
• Resolve discrepancies with document originators and update submittals.
• Provide customer support during erection process.
• Utilize Tekla and AutoCAD software; ensure productive use of tools.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
