Qualifications

• Public service knowledge and ability to determine eligibility for benefits per state/federal guidelines.
• Strong PC skills and ability to use agency software.
• Effective oral and written communication with diverse audiences; collect data, evaluate client situations, and refer as needed.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants, gather information, and determine continuing eligibility.
• Explain benefit programs and determine need for assistance.
• Process applications for financial assistance and related benefits.
• Apply policies and guidelines to determine eligibility and benefit levels.
• Monitor cases for changes and adjust benefits accordingly.
• Assess clients’ employability and income sources; explain responsibilities and rights.
• Refer clients to social workers and prepare reports and records.
• Identify potential fraud and ensure data accuracy; verify information as needed.
• Explain program rights and help clients access other services.
• Describe programs under the social services umbrella to clients.
