Job summary

Bright Vision Technologies is seeking an Autonomous Systems Engineer to design, build, and integrate software for autonomous robots across the full stack. You will work on sensor data pipelines, SLAM, perception, localization, and motion planning in a production setting.

The role requires strong C++/Python, ROS/ROS2 experience, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Remote U.S. work culture, with a focus on reliability and safety in real-world deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Five or more years of robotics software engineering experience.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
• Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2 in production projects.
• Solid experience with at least one of perception, localization, motion planning, or control.
• Familiarity with sensor fusion and Kalman/particle filter techniques.
• Experience with simulation environments (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo).
• Strong debugging skills in real-time and concurrent systems.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Experience supporting field tests and hardware integration.

Responsibilities

• Develop robotics software in C++ and Python, with strong attention to real-time performance and reliability.
• Design and integrate sensor data pipelines including cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and proprioceptive sensors.
• Implement perception, localization, and mapping algorithms including SLAM and sensor fusion.
• Develop motion planning, control, and trajectory generation algorithms respecting constraints for safe robot behavior.
• Build behavioral systems using state machines, behavior trees, or task planners.
• Integrate ROS / ROS 2 frameworks with custom hardware and embedded systems.
• Implement safety-critical patterns including watchdogs, fault detection, and safe stops.
• Build simulation environments (Gazebo, Isaac Sim) for development and testing.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and ML engineers, gathering requirements and ensuring fit to standards.
• Design and execute field tests, including data collection and post-test analysis.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and runbooks for onboarding.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote technical growth.
• Evaluate emerging robotics technologies and make grounded recommendations.
