Job summary

Givebutter is hiring an Associate General Counsel to lead the in-house legal function across governance, IP, risk, and employment. Reporting to CFO, you will own the legal work that protects Givebutter's foundation and supports rapid growth in a payments-enabled fundraising platform.

With one direct report, you will build a lean team, handle board advisory, manage insurance, AI governance, and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in good standing in your state of residence and/or California, New York, or Texas.
• 8–12 years of legal experience in tech or fintech, with top-tier firm and in-house experience.
• Expertise in corporate governance, IP management, and employment law.
• Strong executive presence; able to advise senior leadership and boards.
• Experience managing commercial insurance programs and enterprise risk.
• Experience navigating state-by-state regulations; translate to guidance.
• Fluency with AI tools in a professional context; responsible deployment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; translate complex issues clearly.
• Autonomy in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

Responsibilities

• Own all corporate and board governance activities, including minutes, resolutions, entity management, equity matters, filings, and regulatory reporting.
• Manage IP portfolio: trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets; advise on product development.
• Own insurance program including D&O, cyber, E&O, and general liability; manage renewals and claims.
• Lead internal AI governance framework; develop policies for responsible AI use.
• Advise People on employment law matters: hiring, compensation, investigations, and docs.
• Monitor regulatory developments affecting nonprofit fundraising; coordinate filings.
• Assess legal risk in M&A and strategic initiatives; manage outside counsel.
• Develop scalable legal processes, policies, and templates; leverage AI for efficiency.
• Bring legal work in-house; set thresholds for external counsel and build templates.
