Job summary

Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) is seeking an Associate Financial Analyst (Financial Examiner 2) in Tumwater to evaluate insurer financial filings and assess risk. The role focuses on applying accounting and auditing expertise to ensure regulatory compliance and protect Washington consumers.

As part of the Company Supervision Division, you will work with seasoned examiners and regulators to develop recommendations that support sound supervisory decisions.

Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of qualifying professional experience in accounting or auditing.
  • Successful completion of 20 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, finance, economics, or insurance.
  • Basic skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the financial condition of insurance companies and other regulated entities to identify risks and regulatory issues.
  • Review financial statements, regulatory filings, and supporting documentation to assess solvency and ability to meet obligations.
  • Prepare written financial analyses, risk assessments, and recommendations that support regulatory oversight and decision-making.
  • Monitor insurers and regulated entities, identifying emerging concerns and recommending supervisory actions.
  • Communicate findings with internal staff, legal counsel, and regulators to support coordinated oversight.
