Job summary

SEH, an employee‑owned engineering, architectural, planning, and environmental firm, seeks an Assistant Controller to lead accounting operations and support audits. You will collaborate with senior leadership on financial strategy and drive continuous improvement while growing as a finance leader.

Based in a fully remote role, you will partner with the Controller, manage treasury activities, and mentor accounting staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
• CPA certification, active or inactive.
• Experience as Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller.
• Experience conducting annual financial statement audits.
• Broad hands-on accounting across AP, AR, treasury, close, reporting, and contract review.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Excel; able to leverage tech to improve processes.
• Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations including monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
• Evaluate accounting standards and regulatory changes and advise leadership.
• Coordinate with external auditors for audits and controls.
• Manage treasury: cash positioning, forecasting, bank relations, covenants.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost management with operations.
• Lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff.
• Collaborate with Controller on strategy, process improvements, and special projects.
• Remote role open to candidates in the majority of US states; relocation noted in application.
