Job summary

SEH, an employee-owned engineering, architectural, planning and environmental firm, seeks an Assistant Controller to lead accounting operations, support the annual audit, and partner with the Controller and senior leadership on financial strategy and reporting.

In this remote role, you will manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, oversee treasury activities, ensure GAAP compliance, prepare financial statements, and mentor accounting staff while driving process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• CPA certification (Active or Inactive)
• Experience as Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller
• Experience being part of an annual financial statement audit
• Broad hands-on expertise across end-to-end accounting operations (AP/AR/treasury/audits/close)
• Strong knowledge of GAAP
• Experience managing and developing accounting teams
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Excel; leverage systems to improve processes
• Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Evaluate emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes; advise leadership on impacts and implementation
• Build and maintain relationships with external auditors for audits and controls
• Manage treasury activities including daily cash positioning, forecasting, and bank relationships
• Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to internal controls
• Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variances
• Partner with operations and leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cost management
• Lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff
• Collaborate with Controller on financial strategy and process improvements
