Job summary

SEH is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead the accounting function for a 100% employee‑owned engineering firm. You will supervise monthly/quarterly close, partner with auditors, and advise senior leadership on financial strategy and process improvements.

The role offers a remote work arrangement with the chance to influence finance at a national level, while developing a high‑performing team and supporting budgeting and cost management initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• CPA required (Active or Inactive).
• Experience as Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller.
• Experience being part of an annual financial statement audit.
• Broad end-to-end accounting operations knowledge (AP, AR, treasury, audits, close, reporting, contract reviews).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Proven ability to manage and develop accounting teams.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (incl. Excel); ability to leverage systems to improve processes.
• Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Manage external audits and maintain strong controls.
• Oversee treasury activities, cash positioning, forecasting and bank relationships.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to internal controls.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and strategic initiatives.
• Develop and mentor accounting staff; collaborate with Controller and leadership.
