Johns Hopkins Health System is hiring a Coding Specialist for the Anesthesia department. This 100% remote position offers a daytime schedule Mon-Fri. Equipment is provided and in-home internet is required. Candidates must reside permanently in MD, PA, VA, DE, DC, or FL.

The role requires 3+ years of coding experience, pain management background, and CPC/CCA/CCS-P certification, with strong CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10 knowledge to support accurate, compliant billing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in HIM, Medical Coding, or related field; or high school diploma/GED with 2 years of medical coding experience as substitution for degree.
• CPC, CCS-P, or CCS-AAPC certification required.
• Minimum of 3 years of coding experience.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in pain management.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer policies and coding compliance standards.
• Strong knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding systems, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10 coding.
• Experience using revenue cycle systems to review work queues and resolve edits.

Responsibilities

• Assign diagnosis and procedure codes to professional billing encounters based on medical record documentation and coding guidelines.
• Review and code moderately complex cases with multiple diagnoses or complex documentation.
• Review work queues in coding and revenue cycle systems, identify issues, and resolve discrepancies.
• Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to clarify documentation for accurate coding and billing.
• Participate in coding quality assurance activities and ensure compliance with coding guidelines while maintaining productivity and quality.
